Angle recently unveiled a four-legged prototype called the Familiar, and according to Fast Company, it is... a lot. Picture a bulldog-sized creature with big doe eyes, bear cub ears, and soft touch-sensitive fur that literally stretches out to greet you like a golden retriever who just watched a yoga tutorial. It is designed to follow you around your home and - here is the kicker - adapt to your daily habits over time.
So it's basically a Tamagotchi that went to the gym
The Familiar sits somewhere between a plush toy and a full-blown AI companion. It is not trying to be a perfect replica of an animal. It is going for something more uncanny valley-adjacent: a creature that feels alive enough to spark an emotional connection, without requiring vet bills, 6am walks, or the existential dread of a litter box.
The AI angle (no pun intended, mostly) is what makes this more than just a novelty gadget. The device is built to learn your routines and respond to them, which means it could theoretically know when you need a cheerful robot stretch after a rough Monday meeting. Whether that sounds comforting or terrifying is entirely a you problem.
Why this is actually kind of a big deal
