Most wireless microphone setups are designed to disappear. Clip them under a lapel, tuck the wire away, and hope nobody notices. Insta360 is taking the opposite approach with its upcoming Mic Pro.

Teased at the 2026 NAB Show in Las Vegas, the Mic Pro transmitters feature a round E Ink color screen on the front of each unit, according to The Verge. Rather than hiding the mic, the idea is to turn it into a small but visible display that can show a logo, photo, or custom image - essentially making your microphone part of your personal brand.

A shift in strategy from Insta360

This marks a noticeable pivot from the company's first wireless mic kit, which launched back in June. That original set leaned into subtlety - small, lightweight, roughly AirTag-sized transmitters built to be worn out of sight. The Mic Pro is clearly chasing a different kind of creator: the kind who wants their gear to do double duty as a branding tool.

It's a smart read of where content creation is heading. For podcasters filming video, journalists doing on-camera interviews, or influencers shooting in the field, the microphone is already in the shot. Why not make it work harder?

Why E Ink is a clever choice here

E Ink displays are low-power by nature, which matters a lot when you're asking a wireless transmitter to run all day. The technology also looks sharp in bright outdoor light - better than a traditional LCD screen would. It's the same reason e-readers still thrive. For a device that spends its life clipped to someone's shirt, that combination of visibility and battery efficiency makes a lot of sense.

The ability to swap out logos or images also opens up some interesting possibilities for event coverage, branded content, or even just keeping things visually consistent across a team of creators filming together.

Still early days

The Mic Pro is still in the teaser phase, so pricing, availability, and the full feature set haven't been confirmed yet. But as a concept, it signals that audio gear is increasingly being designed with the visual layer of content creation in mind - not just the sound quality. For anyone who's already thought about whether their mic looks good on camera, Insta360 is essentially saying: yes, that's a real consideration, and here's a product built around it.
