Walmart already delivers your groceries, your prescriptions, and probably whatever random thing you panic-bought at 2am. Now, apparently, the only thing left to add was a footlong.

According to Fast Company, Walmart is rolling out a new food delivery partnership with Subway, letting customers order a freshly made sandwich directly through the Walmart app or Walmart.com - arriving alongside their oat milk and dish soap in as little as 30 minutes. It is, officially, the first restaurant meal Walmart has folded into its same-day delivery service.

A sandwich. Delivered. With your cereal.

Look, individually none of this is shocking. Walmart does fast delivery. Subway makes sandwiches. But together? This is a new kind of errand erasure. One order, one app, one delivery driver pulling up to your door with a bag of paper towels and a Meatball Marinara. We are living in a simulation and the simulation just got a loyalty rewards program.

The service is launching in select markets this month, so not everyone gets to experience the future just yet. But the direction is clear - Walmart is trying to become the one-stop-shop that actually means it. Why pop into five different apps when one superapp can feed you, medicate you, and stock your pantry before your lunch break ends?

Why this actually matters (no, really)

Beyond the obvious convenience factor, this partnership signals something bigger about where retail is going. The lines between grocery delivery, restaurant delivery, and general e-commerce are basically dissolving at this point. Walmart is essentially competing with DoorDash and Instacart simultaneously - using restaurant partnerships to make its delivery ecosystem stickier and harder to leave.

For Subway, it is a massive distribution win. Getting folded into Walmart's delivery infrastructure means tapping into a customer base that is already in buying mode, not just hungry mode. That is a very different - and potentially very lucrative - kind of foot traffic. Except, you know, without the feet.

Whether this is brilliant or deeply unsettling probably depends on how much you value leaving your house. Either way, the footlong is coming to you. Resistance is futile and also kind of inconvenient when you could just order on the app.
